Sprint's Palm Pre Exclusive Through 2009

While it's been well known that Sprint has an exclusive on Palm's Pre handset, it hasn't been very clear as to the length of the exclusivity. According to a Reuter's source who asked not to be named, Sprint's exclusive on the Pre lasts throughout 2009. The source would not comment on 2010.
While not exactly a shocking announcement, this confirms that US residents wanting a Pre this year will have to look to Sprint Wireless. Those hoping for a Verizon Palm Pre or even a GSM version for AT&T, will have to look to 2010.

Look at the coverage areas of Sprint, Verizon and AT&T. Sprint not even covers 30% of the areas where the other two had penetrated.
Even in the areas where Sprint has excellent coverage like in Metro cities, people prefer other two networks over sprint, because of the choice of phones, quality of customer care support and the loyalty with the network. Needless to say a considerable fraction of AT&T users are with that provider because of Iphone.
I have been a Sprint user for a long time. And in the city where I live, I never had problems with coverage except when I travel deep in the country which I rarely do. Also, compared to my other friends who are on AT&T and Verizon the data services on Sprint is definitely (may be argualbly) the best! I agree their customer service was pretty bad, and pretty much used to suck all the time. But, in recent times especially since Q2 of 2008, they improved A LOT! Still, it may not be as enough of a support as Verizon provides to its loyal customers. But, being with Sprint all the time, they gave our whole family free phone (including 2 BlackBerrys and a lotus) and also $100 credit on each line this month when I renewed my two year Contract with them.
I was tempted to go to AT&T for Iphone. But, now I love Palm Pre thats coming on Sprint, and will be buying it when it is released. I am trying to write some programs myslef for Palm Pre. I love Palm's developer website and support. I was lured by Verizon for their coverage and Customer support, but I learned for now where I am staying Sprint is a better choice as my loyalty got paid!
It does not matter whether Sprint is going to recapture the market or not, Palm Pre is coming in to stay here because it is the only real "SMART PHONE" that was ever built!
Thanks for reading! I am a medical student interested in Software development. This is entirely my personal opinion and I am not supporting any network and I do not work for any of these companies.
Have a great day everyone!
