It looks as if we received some bad intel when we informed you that the Treo Pro would not ship until October. As it turns out, reports have some lucky folks already receiving shipments of the Treo Pro. If you are in the market for Palm's tour de force Windows Mobile Treo and don't feel like waiting for AT&T to subsidize the Treo Pro, you can order direct from Palm. Be forewarned, it will set you back $549. In return, you'll have Windows Mobile 6.1, GPS, WiFi all neatly wrapped in Palm's slimmest Treo to date, just waiting for the SIM card of your choice. If you do take the plunge, let us know what you think by submitting your review of the Treo Pro.

During Palm's quarterly conference call, the company confirmed that the Treo Pro will be available on a US carrier. The Treo Pro is currently available direct from Palm, but at a non-subsidized price of $549. Of course, this price allows you to use the Treo Pro worldwide with any sim card and not be bound by a lengthy contract.

Over the past few months, Palm has made strides with their hardware designs, most notably the Treo Pro. The latest Treo releases from Palm (Treo 800w and Treo Pro) both run Windows Mobile leaving fans of the Palm OS waiting for the next generation Palm OS, also known as Palm OS 2 or Nova. Nova is based upon the Linux operating system and according to the company it is still "on track" to be completed by the end of 2008.
According to Palm, handsets with the new Palm OS won't find their way onto shelves until the second half of 2009. Recent history has shown prospective release dates for Palm OS 2 have slipped, but with the end of 2008 just three months away, they must be close to completion.

Despite reports to the contrary, pre-orders of the Treo Pro (now available at Palm) will start shipping in the first two weeks of October. The Palm website incorrectly shows the Treo Pro as "In Stock" and "Usually ships in 1-2 days". If you have pre-ordered the Treo Pro, you'll have to wait just a few more weeks.
