HP TouchPad QuickSpecs Leak, June 12th Launch Date?

An apparent document titled “QuickSpecs” has found it’s way to the Interwebs. While the document itself doesn’t offer any new product information, it does include a version date.

HP TouchPad QuickSpecs

Worldwide – Version 1.0 – June 12, 2011

Now HP likely put this information sheet together to begin sales to enterprise customers, which sounds logical. To us, we interpret this document to read, “The first HP TouchPad will be released worldwide on June 12th”.

Wishful thinking or could this really be happening in less than 2 weeks?

HP Prepping New TV Campaign To Feature Russell Brand, Lady GaGa, Kanye, JayZ

We’ve heard that HP would be introducing a major ad blitz to promote new webOS products including the Veer along with the upcoming Pre 3 and TouchPad. The new campaign will reportedly include some big name talents including Russell Brand, Lady GaGa, Kanye West and JayZ.  HP is betting big on this campaign with over $4 million wrapped in in production and $10 million in celebrity contracts.

The ads will be in full rotation come mid-July. We’d assume that means that the TouchPad will be available sometime before that. Get ready folks. This is the part of the Palm acquisition where HP puts some serious marketing dollars behind the webOS platform.

HP TouchPad Will Be “Better Than Number One” Says HP Euro Chief

The HP TouchPad might prove to be a formidable competitor in the soon to be very crowded tablet space. HP’s Eric Candor, the company’s Senior Vice President in Europe, has made some bold predictions ahead of the TouchPad launch.

“In the PC world, with fewer ways of differentiating HP’s products from our competitors, we became number one; in the tablet world we’re going to become better than number one. We call it number one plus.”

There is a fine line between bold and crazy. This quote falls directly in the Roger McNamee category.

HP TouchPad Shows Up On Best Buy’s Website

Outside of “this summer”, we don’t have a firm release date for the HP Touchpad. Rumors of June continue to perculate and now it appears that Best Buy is preparing for the launch. A splash page, complete with specs and introduction video is now readily accessible on their site. Still no way to buy yet, but one would think it’s got to be coming soon. Soon as in the next few weeks?

HP TouchPad Available in April?

This seems like wishful thinking, but DigiTimes expects HP to start sales of the TouchPad in early April, with shipments expected by the end of March. Their track record is spotty to say the least. This seems highly unlikely and even less substance to DigiTimes reporting than usual. The cite sources from HP’s upstream component suppliers.

webOS Tablet To Be Named TouchPad

According to our friends PreCentral, the name of the new webOS tablet will be the TouchPad. Arriving at the event early, they were able to listen in on a rehearsal of today’s upcoming event. The specifications for the TouchPad are exact to the first generation iPad. It will be 1.5 pounds and 13mm in thickness.

Will Apple think this name is too similar to the iPad? Remember, this is a company that went after the city of New York and went to trial over the usage of the term ‘pod’.

HP Files For Three Trademarks: Duopad, Touchslate, Touchcanvas

HP recently filed for a trademark for HP Touchpad, leading to speculation that the upcoming line of webOS tablets would follow that naming convention. Now it seems there are three new filings that are likely related to the webOS tablets. HP has filed for Duopad, Touchslate and Touchcanvas. While there have been a few leaks regarding possible specs of the tablets, it’s still not clear what HP will call the new line of tablets.

HP Files for HP Touchpad Trademark, Possible Naming for webOS Tablets?

Yesterday, it was uncovered that HP had filed for a trademark for the term ‘HP Touchpad’. This has led to speculation that the forthcoming webOS tablets might include that name in some form.  It seemed unlikely the company would go with PalmPad, given the transition to HP branding that’s been occurring as of late.
