| Tutorial Simple 2.5mm Headphones I had one of those adapters for changing the 3.5mm headphone jack into a 2.5mm one. But I would always forget it when I needed it most. So this morning I took the time to make a set of headphones (3.5mm jack) into a set that could be used with the Treo 650, or any phone with a 2.5mm jack. Materials: Xbox headset
headphones
box cutter
scissors
knife
soldering iron
Ok first things first. All you need to work with is a original Xbox headset and pretty much any set of headphones.
Here is the Xbox heaset we will be disassembling.
This is the 2.5mm jack that we will plug into the handheld when we are finished.
First remove the cusion and cover over the speaker.
We want to maintain focus on the red and blue wires, these are for the speaker. Desolder the red and blue wires alond with the gold and white ones, Leaving just the
small circuitboard. The white and gold are for the mic. Which may be the next mod.
The mic for the xbox headset will remain seperate. Keep the circuitboard, we will use
this later to connect everything. I trimmed down the circuitboard by cutting the
capacitor off, but you don't have to.
We will fit the transformation in here, to neatly hide this mess of an adapter.
Cut a find line across the seam where the two pieces meet. Be carefull there is a
solid magnet in there.
Remove the magnet and shave off any excess rubber. You know just clean it up a bit.
Whoops wasn't paying attention. That must have been how the tip got so dirty.
Don't forget to clean the tip of the soldering iron to remove all keyboard residue. Splice the wires of your headphones and use the trimmed circuitboard to connect the red and blue wires from the Xbox headset to the headphones of your choice.
Leave the white wire insulated and trim down the gold wire because there are
only wire for the speaker through the cover of the headphone wires. Tie a knot in
both sides of the insulated wire, to keep from putting tension on the circuitboard.
Spread open the rubber cover, and carefully put the transformer
inside.
It is a little cramped, but carefully situate things so that everything fits nicely.
Take your time and superglue the cap closed.
Finished product. Better than the adapter huh? Hope so.
Now you can watch your movies or listen to music using a
headset dedicated to your handheld, Enjoy friends.
