I'm assuming you're on a "blue" (old AT&T) plan--if so, there's noting wrong with your Treo.

For some reason, the connection between the AT&T and T-Mobile networks is faulty. I can tell when I'm calling a t-mobile customer, as I usually get a "beep" instead of the usual "ring" when I call out, and there's often a lot of static. I personally haven't tried calling on an "Orange" network plan, but all my friends who have orange plans have told me that they have no problems.
