My bottom of the line Plantronics Explorer 320 beats it hands down in sound quality.
Personal preference. So far the headsets that I've liked have all been ear-hook types. The over-the-ear type doesn't seem very secure to me, and I don't like in-ear models (same with headsets for music, I don't like the way they shut out external sound). I realize some people would consider that a plus, but I prefer to be able to hear external sound, especially if I'm listening to music at my desk, for example.
I ended up ordering a Scala 500 (from the ET store, where else?) and received it last night. I may ask Chris if he would be interested in a review. The pairing was quick and painless, and the sound has been decent so far.
