2nd question first: You should be able to put Your current Sim card in the new Treo and be good to go . . The only problem you might have is if you are using an old Sim. I think the 32k sims will still work, but Cingular really encouraged me to upgrade to the new 64 bit . . . I think it was $35 more . .

Now for your First Question: There are two methods to use when you IM. Those that use Text and those that use Data. If you want to IM someone on ICQ, AOL, Yahoo, etc, you can use data (mediaNet) and a Palm Applicaiton to accomplish this. If your wanting to IM to/from a phone number, then you might want to consider a Text Messaging Plan. My suggestion would be not to change from your current medianet plan unless its not unlimited, and then I would suggest you call Cingular and make it unlimited!!! You are supposed to use their PDA plan with a Treo, and that is over $40 per month!!!! MediaNet is the same service as the PDA plan, they just expect you to use more data with a PDA than you would on another Cell Phone. With that, I added 200 Text messages per month for $5.00.

finally, let me suggest this article.

Hope this helps!

two questions:
1) If I want to use IM, I need to get a media works plan correct?

2) What do I need to do to switch from my current phone to the Treo650? Just switch SIM cards or do I actually need to call Cingular and give them ESN info.
