I had so many difficulties syncing when trying out a Treo 600 that I took it back! After reading lots, I decided to try using the Missing Sync (
http://www.markspace.com/), and then I got my Treo 650. It works beautifully.
You might want to check that out.
BTW, I use OS X Panther; I understand there are some synching issues with Tiger.
