Unless you plan on using the Treo as strictly a phone and PDA then I don't think a data plan would be necessary, however, if you plan on using the internet capabilities of the treo, then yes a data plan would be needed. A data plan similar to those offered for the sideckick and blackberry would be sufficient and should not cost more than $39.99.
