I asked a Cingular rep and he told me that I could use the treo as a modem but if I do that, then I would be charged for additional data consumption because the unlimited use is only for the PDA. They can distinguish whether I am pulling data with the PDA or laptop by determining which browser is used (Blazer vs. IE). Is this true?
If they wanted to know...Yes, they could tell.

Will they bill you for laptop usage... *probably not*.
I haven't seen any cases of people getting slammed with
a high bill because of using the Treo as a modem.

In the end, it's up to you...
