I found this FAQ at

A: You don't need any software to backup or restore the SMS database. Windows mobile save all SMS messages in the file of \Storage\cemail.vol. So to backup is just backup this file. Use File Explorer inside ActiveSync, normally you can not copy this file out because the file is used by the system or means locked, but you can rename it, rename cemail.vol to cemailback.vol and power off and power on the device, you can see now device create a new cemail.vol and cemailback.vol still exists. So cemail.vol is the empty template SMS database, and cemailback.vol is all your backup SMS. To restore just rename current cemail.vol, and replace with your backup database cemailback.vol to cemail.vol and power off/on. Please be noticed that this solution is not guarantee to work between two different device or OS version. |
