It comes with Versamail which is a serviceable program very capable of checking POP accounts. I have for years been using
Snappermail. It's excellent.

I would slowly add programs -- too many too fast could cause stability issues with your Treo. As far as programs I recommend, it all depends on the individual user. Some great Treo programs are utilities like
Butler. If you're a games person, then check out
Bejeweled. There are literally thousands of programs.
