A bit of advice here - when you execute a hard reset and then execute a standard hot sync, you bring the problem child right back to life on the device. So, if you have a problem and do decide to execute a hard reset, do not do the standard hot sync. The instead to do is a selective restore.
Now, the memos thing you mention as being the bad dude. You mention DBFixit, which is what I have used in the past. Did you register/pay and try it or just in the unregistered mode?
Another avenue to approach this is just to delete the memos database and start all over again.
