Accessing gMail Using VersaMail on your Treo

My Treo 700p keeps downloading my "Sent Mail" from GMail.

Whenever I send Email from Outlook or straight from GMAIL it keeps it on the "Sent Mail" server and then downloads it to my Treo with my Inbox mail too.

There's isn't a setting on Treo to NOT download sent mail, and there isn't a setting on GMAIL to NOT keep Sent mail...

Any suggestions on how to stop this???

By the way..Outlook works fine...it only downloads the INBOX mail from GMAIl.

When I try to connect my versa mail to google, I get a DNS error.

Any help would be appreciated.

Looking to access your Gmail account on your Treo? Simply reply to this thread to see the complete guided tutorial with screenshots to set up Gmail using Versamail on your Treo.


First things first, launch Versamail and go to Account Setup:


Next, name it Gmail or anything else you'd like. Select Other and POP as the protocal.



Enter your full username, so yourname@gmail.com and enter your password.



Enter your email address and the coordinating POP and SMTP settings:



Click on advanced and set incoming server settings:



Next, it will ask you to set outgoing server settings:



Press Done and then Get Mail. That's it. You've successfully set up Gmail using Versamail on your Treo. I haven't tried this with Snappermail, but I'm sure it works using the above settings which by the way are available at Google.

I had the same problem, and was driving me nuts, until I read somewhere about the same problem wherein he hadn't selected "Use authentication (ESMTP)" in the advanced setup. Once I did this, presto, can send and receive. Not as quick and easy to set up as a Balckberry, but I have this phone. so happy to have email now.

Hellow, I'm having an issue w/ gMail.
I followed your thread for the install, I keep getting an Error, like "go to" gmail set-up page and enable POP access, I do that and still the same olde'. Like 530 5.5.1 Authentication Req'd, one code was; e19sm3261945qbe.

Going back to Account Set-up,
Acct Name: gMail ( exactly like this?)
Mail Service: US-GMail Is this right? I've selected "Other" and when I go back it has US-GMail, I've re-done the "set-up" process 2X's to make sure I've done everything right!
What am I missing here?

My Versamail on my Treo 650 is full. Or at least, I think that's why it stopped downloading. No error message, a few weeks ago it just wouldn't pull any new messages from my Gmail.

I tried clearing up my gmail account, by archiving. I have now 58 messages in my Gmail inbox but still over 300 on Versamail.

I've tried deleting everything on my Versamail, but it just all redownloads. Times out a lot doing that. Then doesn't download recent messages.

I've tried deleting the account on the treo, then recreating with settings to only download recent messages (last 3 days). But I get old messages.

I've tried marking every message on Gmail as read, but it all redownloads.

I've tried to only download messages in last 3 days, but it pulls messages from last April.

I've tried to autosync it every hour, which does pull messages but they are old.

Does this sound familiar - is this a solvable problem, or should I get different treo software/email account/treo?

P.s. And...my other Gmail account, which is also set up in Versamail, which has a lot less messages, downloads fine.

Accessing my gmail through my Treo has been working well for me for the last few months until this week. Now, my Treo doesn't seem to be capturing any gmail after 10/14 even though I have plenty coming through gmail after 10/14. I tried a number of things (ie. deleting old mail from my Treo, even uninstalling and reinstalling gmail through versamail) and nothing seems to work -- I'm still not getting any emails after 10/14 on my Treo. Any ideas of what the solution is?

ok i need help....i set up versamail with no problem but i wont let me send any e-mails it says 530-5.5.1 Authentication required.....what do i do?!?!

I think I figured out why VersaMail stoped downloading my Gmail - I was always hesitant, when I deleted items on my Treo, to check the box "delete also on the server". I thought they would be deleted in my Gmail account. But they mean the Versamail server. So I can delete everything on my Treo, and check the box to delete also on the server, and still have everything in my Gmail account. That clears out the Treo, so it can keep downloading new messages.
