I was directed last night to this thread by a kind soul. Thanks for your help Chris and everyone else in setting versamail. I wonder why setting "gmail" on the scroll menu at the first setup screen does not work, it only worked with me when I selected "other." I guess it does not matter since I got gmail to work now and that is what matters, really. On a side note, is there any reason to use Xpressmail program that comes bundled with phone from cingular?
FYI. I have treo 650-1.17-cng with cingular. fw 01.51.

Cool. This thread is a "blast from the past". I read your message and remembered this was an "older" post.
Glad it's working!

Gmail is terrific. I have found it to be far superior to other web-based email services. I have, like some others on this thread, had a few glitches with Versamail (in all, though, it's worked quite well for me). However, for my purposes, I have found it better to use the new mobile web access for gmail - m.gmail.com. It works great, and is pretty quick on my Treo, even though I'm using Blazer. For those of you having trouble with your email clients and Gmail on the Treo, check it out. You might be pleasantly surprised.

is it worth it? - Yes, and it's free (well, you can't complain about that, right?
).
are you happy with it? - Absolutely. Take a while a to get use to it. Now gmail is the one one I am really using for anything unrelated to my work.
should i use it? - Why not give it a try, you have nothing to lose.
would you.... - PM me your e-mail address if you want/need an invitation.

ready to buy my 650 - as long as my gmail will work flawlessly
Hello Chris,
Thanks for this post. I am very excited to buy my Treo 650 right after the New Year and have been lurking on Everything Treo and other forum websites. I rely heavily on my gmail account and wanted to make sure I wouldn't have any problems. A few questions arose while I read this post:
- What are the pros and cons of using versamail as opposed to the mobile link that Google just created for gmail?
- will the google mobile link allow for messages to appear as they come to my inbox or is there a delay?
- I keep hearing praises for chattermail and snappermail. What are their advantages over versamail and the google mobile link when it comes to downloading gmail?
- Do versamail, chattermail and snappermail enable me to use the archiving and labeling functions that I have come to rely on in the gmail interface?
- If I use any of these applications, will I still be able to access my gmail account on my computer web browser (i.e., will the messages still be in the google server)?
Thanks in advance for sending the rest of the materials/screenshots you mentioned.
Happy Holidays,
Mark
