Default yet another gmail question

Hello all.

I have set up my gmail account in Versamail following these directions and I'm still having issues.

When I go to "get" my mail, the Treo 650 attempts to download 417 email, even though there are only about 45 in my inbox (I archived a bunch lasta night before trying to sync with the palm).

The other issue I keep having is that when the emails start to download to my Treo, the newest emails are from Feb 9th. Obviously today is March 8th and I've gotten many emails since the 9th, but the treo can't recognize that for some reason.

Any suggestions?

Thanks so much for your help!

Default change your settings

Go into your Gmail settings and tell it that you only want to download POP from this point forward. Then, Versamail should only download new mail you receive from this point.

Anything you archive will still be downloaded. Sometimes, if you haven't been using the Treo for email for awhile, you may have to go back to Gmail settings, turn off POP, and turn it back on from "this point forward," to reset it.

Hope this helps.

One weird thing though.. it just downloaded 171 messages. Considering I downloaded the whole account this morning, it shouldn't have done that. I'm guessing that my settings at Gmail are a bit screwy.

Hope this helps.

Default still need help

ok I followed the directions and I am still having a problem with gmail. I can send emails but I can't receive any emails. whenever I tell the treo to get the mail it says I may have to get it manually. or sometimes it goes through but it doesn't deliver any new mail. I am a newbie to the treo so bear with me plz. also I wanted to know if someone emails me to my gmail will it pop up on my treo quickly. I am coming from the sidekick world where emails show up as soon as they are received. thx all.

Default Accessing Gmail on Versamail 3.0

Thanks for all the posts here as I finally got the GMAIL account setup correctly in Versamail 3.0 (Treo 650).

Instructions on what I did to make this work, even on the first try.

On your Treo 650
1. Click Versamail, Create Accounts on the top bar by accessing Account Setup
2. Click New, type in Account Name (I used Gmail), on Mail Server select Other
3. Click Next, type username and password
4. Click Next, type in Email Address (username@gmail.com)
5. Incoming Server is pop.gmail.com
6. Outgoing Server is smtp.gmail.com
7. Don't Press Done, and Click Advance.
8. Change Incoming Server Setting: Port number to 995
9. Check Box on Use Secure Connection (SSL)
10. Change Outgoing Server Setting: Port number to 465
11. Check Box on Use Secure Connection (SSL)
12. Press Done.

On your Gmail acount
1. Login to Gmail account, Click Settings (Top Right Near Corner of Page)
2. Click on Forwarding Pop Link
3. Select Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)
or Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on
4. Press Save Changes

On your Treo 650
Press Get Mail on your Gmail account, and your Treo should starting connecting to the Gmail servers.

btw - this did not work for me:

" 10. Change Outgoing Server Setting: Port number to 465"

465 did not work, I had to use port 587. Funny, it works for some but not for others. I wonder if it a regional/location issue?

Default STARTTLS command - the beast is back

I am able to receive email frommy gmail account, but there is no luck in sending. When I try I get the dreaded "5305.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS commmand first..." message. I know that this has been addressed before, but I've lookedinto past fixes and they are not working. Any ideas - anyone? Thanks.

sometimes you have to send mail through your carrier. I had gmail on my Treo but took it off, so I can't remember exactly how I had it set up. However, sometimes using your carriers SMTP will work - like smtp.sprintpcs.com, or you home ISP's settings. I have a SBC/Yahoo DSL account at home and I use their smtp settings for my personal email even on my Treo.
