Currently I have a macbook pro, osx.

I use Gmail the web based version as my primary account but also pop my mail over to "mail" client on the mac so I can access it offline and just find old emails at anypoint, a local archive in a sense.

    Below are my gmail settings***********

Forwarding and Pop - current settings:

    Forwarding:

    *Disable forwarding

    Pop Download:

1)Status: Pop is enabled for all mail that has arrived since Jul 9.

    2) Keep Gmail's copy in the inbox

Now my question is on the Treo 700p for verizon - whenever I send an email from my gmail account, it shows up in my versamail inbox as from me. Is there a way not to see mail I send but only mail Irecieve from other users?

It took me a while to figure this out, but this works for me (700P Sprint, standard Versamail).

You need to set two filters by going to Preferences, then filters. Filter 1: If To contains "your entire gmail address"
then get mail and move to Inbox.
Filter 2: If From contains "your entire gmail address" then get mail and move to Sent.

This has worked fine for me. The only problem is that I have it set for alerts; I get an alert when I send something, but there is nothing in the inbox (because it goes to the sent box) but as long as you don't use an alert it will be no problem.

Is there a way to have a new email (running gmail on versa) alert you instead of having to check it all the time?

*hopes this is not a stupid question*

From your mailbox, go to: menu/options/preferences

From there, select how you want to be alerted and what sounds you want to use.

I am guessing that you have already set it up to "autosync" every so often. In case you haven't, you can find this feature in menu/options/preferences, under Delivery and autosync . .

FYI....all I did was go to gmail.com/app and followed the link to setup my email. I did not use the cingular proggy that comes with the phone but actually did the link to google. Once I did that and set up everything I made the link a "favorite" on my phone. BTW...all without using another 3rd party app but directly to google.

gmail is made to work best from the web for sure. But by configuring a third party email app, you can autosync over the air. In other words, it goes out and polls the server and downloads the mail to your Treo on a set frequency.

First things first, launch Versamail and go to Account Setup:

Next, name it Gmail or anything else you'd like. Select Other and POP as the protocal.

Enter your full username, so yourname@gmail.com and enter your password.

Enter your email address and the coordinating POP and SMTP settings:

Click on advanced and set incoming server settings:

Next, it will ask you to set outgoing server settings:

Press Done and then Get Mail. That's it. You've successfully set up Gmail using Versamail on your Treo. I haven't tried this with Snappermail, but I'm sure it works using the above settings which by the way are available at Google.

Thanks for replying and I hope you found the tutorial useful!

When I set up my account, Gmail was listed under "other" and all the settings were preset. You might check that. You also need to go to your gmail account and enable it for pop.
