Ok Im all set up but when I go to get my messages... which is about 1100.. I set the filter to get only mail from the last week and then it goes and tries to do that, but then I get an error message that says....Data filter.... 1051 messages were not downloaded because the 'getmail options' are currently configured to get only mail from the last 7 days. well i have unread messages in there from today and its not pulling them. when i hit ok it just takes me to my inbox which contains nothing... and sometimes it keeps freezing the screen. what to do???

I would suggest letting it download the initial 1000 or so messages. Don't worry about setting to get the "last 7 days". Matter of fact, you can remove that setting. Once it downloads the 1000, each time it logs in, it will only download what's new.
Make sense?
So, first time will be a long download. Each concurrent time will just download your new messages.

I'm half way there... just wondering.. where does it store the messages.. like on the main OS? will it make functions slow? I should probably just delete a bunch of the messages and just save them as "archived" on the computer
haha sorry for the stupid questions. Im just a newbie

Once it finishes, just select all and Move To > Trash. Then, empty your trash. Even though you've trashed them, VersaMail will know that it's already downloaded them and will skip them.

It's not neccessary. The only downside to having a number of messages stored on the server (which technically is what GMail is), is that VersaMail will have to look at all the messages before downloading new ones. With a "typical" POP account -- let's say a Comcast account, you're home computer usually is set to "delete off server.. after 7 days OR ..after message has been downloaded". I have it set to "after it's been downloaded". On my Treo, I leave messages on server and I manage my mail on my Mac.

No problem. Glad to help out.

hmmmm not sure why it keeps cutting off.. and i keep having to do a soft reset. im trying to delete my trash and its just saying please wait.. but no orange light at the top or arrows around the little green town saying its connected..
is there an easier way to reset without taking the battery cover off each time?

still cant delete the trash.. then when i tried to send a message out i get this error... 530 5.7.0 must issue a STARTTLS command first i14sm2163279wxd also it took forever to typ the message.. its like it was in slow motion

I'm not sure what the error message is, but I'm guessing it's choking on all the messages.
Here's an idea.
Go into Options > Preferences > Deletion >
Check Auto-Empty from Trash > Immediately
See if that works.
