    Default My Snapper Mail Opinions

My Snapper Mail trial has just expired, so I figured I would give some of my opinions based on what I experienced.

    Good points...

    1. Retreiving mail was quick.
    2. Mail downloads give more information by displaying the sender and subject.
    3. The deleting of mail worked flawlessly.
    4. Dialog boxes tell you what it is doing when it connects to the server for retrieving, sending, or deleting mail.

    Bad points...
    1. Seemed like every time I went to put my password in to use the Treo 650 (I have mine password locked), it seems that Snapper mail does something and then turns my power OFF, which makes me have to turn it on, and then press the center button of the 5 way (this time password isn't required) BUT I am at the security screen of the preferences. This REALLY ANNOYED ME!
    2. I didn't like the fact that the main mailbox was stored on the phone and the archive was stored on the card. I wanted ALL on the card with the exception of the program. I don't know if all mail programs do this or not, so it may be unfair but I don't like that.

Overall I was pleased with the performance of SnapperMail, on it's worst of days it is FAR better than VersaMail. I installed ChatterMail this morning and I am going to use it through the trial period and then I will decided which one I want to purchase. I will give my opinions about ChatterMail when it expires.

Sorry to sort of highjack this thread, but I am a new Verizon Treo 650
owner and would like to do the following:
    - Frequent HotSync (through PC connected to corporate network IMAP mail) my mail for offline reading/deleting/replying on my Tero 650. Why HotSync? Because I'm often in locations with broadband access but poor cell signal and
also I would like to save on data minutes :>)
    - Occasional wireless email

    I really don't want "push" - I prefer to log-in, get me email,and then log-in
again and sync up, just like I do with my PC mail client (Thunderbird). Yet
this mode doesn't seem to get much attention in the various postings I've
read. Everything is geared to on-line usage.

I have been using Versamail for a few days but I haven't found it very friendly. In fact I can download messages over the air but although it appears
to connect with the IMAP and SMTP servers at work, it doesn't appear to sync up with a hotsync (ie no ne wmessages appear). It seems to sync OK with my personal POP email, but I can't send out (SMTP connection rejected by sbc perhaps?)

My interpretation of the VZW Wireless Sync app is that it only syncs wireless. So it wouldn't work for my preferred usage model. Do Chatter or Snapper work through HotSync or over the air only?

    Thanks - dman

    Default Sprint BizConnect

Didn't see it listed, but for Sprint users there's a true push email option with MSExchange. I used it for a few months and did not have any issues with getting my work email. The only drawback was that I had to leave my desktop computer on at work. My work network is a little unstable so I would occasionally have to call the IT guys to reboot/relogin so I could get the connection back.

The last month or so, I went back to the latest version of Versamail with the "Exchange Sync" option. Works great on an hourly auto sync (I found out I don't really need everyone at work knowing that I get my email immediately even when I'm out). I also can manually sync if I'm bored in a meeting or am expecting something between autosync's. Versamail also works well with my Comcast, gMail, and .Mac accounts. For Yahoo! I just use their pay for POP service (interface looks strangely familiar to the Sprint BizCon).

    Just my $0.02

If I am not mistaken, I would think that the SMTP is going to have to deliver mail to the Verizon SMTP server as I am pretty sure it will only accept mail delivery from nodes on it's own network (security feature that most ISPs provide). For instance, I cannot deliver mail from my SprintPCS Treo to my Road Runner SMTP server because my Treo is not on the Road Runner network. So I send my outbound SMTP for my Road Runner Account through the SprintPCS SMTP server and it will deliver it. I think the purpose is to prevent email relay.

Try pointing the SMTP to the Verizon SMTP server for all SMTP accounts. I hope this helps.

    Default My Chatter Mail Opinions

My Chatter Mail trial recently expired. Well, I decided on Snapper Mail and I have bought it and installed it.

To be honest, the chatter mail interface was very clunky and the interface was not intuitive at all to navigate. Toward the end of the trial period I was back to using my VersaMail.

The things that I didn't like about Chatter Mail.

    1. Clunky interface, relatively difficult to manipulate and navigate, definitely NOT intuitive.
    2. SLOOOOW when checking mail or Deleting mail from the server.
    3. Virtually no feedback as to where along the SLOW communication the application is. Like how many emails yet to download and how many left to delete.

Since I couldn't get beyond the clunky interface and SLOW communication with the mail server, I really wasn't interested in digging any deeper. I just stopped using it in the end.

All in all, Chatter Mail is not for me. I downloaded Snapper Mail and installed it. I am happy with it.

What version of Snappermail are you using? I've been using Version 2.1.1.01 and it has been flawless! I upgraded to 2.3.2 about a month ago and it was much slower and froze up daily. Used it for a week then went back to the previous version, and it was clearly faster. I'm wondering if others have noticed this too?
But Snappermail has been the cleanest app I've ever bought for Palm O/S

I have Standard Edition version 2.3.2. I don't see any problems with it. It seems fast to me.

There is an option in Snappermail to store all messages on the memory card. In Snappermail go to Prefs-> Storage-> Default Mail Storage Rules. Change the second option to "Save New Mail on card"

So I just got a new Treo 650 through Earthlink, and they've installed their own email client on it called Earthlink Mailbox ver.1.2.13, ***powered by Snapperfish***. The program looks nearly identical to Snappermail screenshots I've seen, and works nicely as well. My one big problem with it however, is how non-configurable it's appearance is. Under Options/Preferences, Message Tab, there is only ONE configurable Appearance option: Standard or Classic. That's it! No colors, no fonts, NOTHING! This drives me nuts cause I had been using Versamail for my first few weeks and I'd configured it for smaller hi-res fonts so I could view more on the tiny Treo screen. Now Mailbox cum Snapper works nicely, but the font is that outrageous old-school original Palm low-res font. Does the real Snappermail provide any better options in this department? The screenshots on their website only show those same crappy fonts.

    Thanks!
