    Question Best Voice Recognition App

I need a voice dialer that is reliable and relatively inexpensive and will also support my generic Bluetooth headset. Anyone got any recommendations, suggestions or general comments?

    Default I use Voice Dialit

I use this program called Voice Dialit and a Jabra 250 bluetooth headset. I think the Jabra is around 70 bucks. I got it as a gift so I am not sure. Voice Dialit works well for me after I train it to all the contacts I want to be able to dial. It works best in a fairly quiet environment. Some excess noises will certainly interfere. Good luck in your search.

As the above says, the environment is the key. If it is a fairly quiet environment, life is good. If there is a lot of noise, then no matter how good the training and the effort put in to it, your results will not be that good. Ben

Question voice dial, bluetooth and 700p

First, why can I voice dial over bluetooth (w/ builtin software) from an old Motorola Rzr v3C, but not from my 700P? Even w/ VoiceDial It software?
    Rhetorical question.
I just saw that Palm has software update for new 800w that does allow voice recognition / dialing over bluetooth.....
Does anyone know if by chance that software could be used on my 700p? There has been other 'model specific' software that actually wasn't (e.g. 4mb SDHC card compatibility) and would work on the 700p, although I guess the Palm vs Windows OS issue might also present a problem.
Any info appreciated (so I don't have to crash my 700p trying it out as I haven't gotten it completely backed up yet).

    Hi and welcome to ET:

Excuse me, but you did notice you have a 700P and that update you are asking about is for an 800W? I know you noticed because you mentioned it. It will not work as Windows and Palm do not mix.

DO NOT try to load it. Do check Palm's site to see if Bluetooth dialing can work with the 700P device if you haven't already done so. Otherwise you will have to try third-party vendors to see if software is written for the 700p. I don't have a 700P so I am not aware.

    Wish I had better news....

A point - POS does not support Bluetooth voice dialing UNLESS you use a Bluetooth Dongle like a Jabra A210.

Windows OS does support it if the device supports it.

    Default thanks

thanks - I am aware of the difference.
I just keep hoping some hands free dialing might become available for the 700p.
next question - are there ay Palm / treo (or blackberry) smartphones that have this feature available as I anticipate my upgrade in a year?
    thanks.

Well, you could take a look at this site and try to evaluate if it might be of help. It is a Voice Dialer for the 650 and 700. I am at work and do not have time to plod through it, but let us know what you find out and decide. I am not aware of a Bluetooth dialing app for Palm, but I never looked for one either.

Since this is a Treo board I won't mention that my Sprint BB8830 came with a voice dialing application preinstalled. And it is quite accurate.

I have a feeling the patch for the 800w was pushed out due to consumer uproar. I suppose it is easier to implement for a Windows device.

Voice dialing via Bluetooth with the patch released by Palm works well - as a result, the Bluetooth radio is never off on my 800W.
