Default faster way to text message?

you have to go to messaging and then new then choose contact,
    blah blah blah

Wish there was a program where you could make a shortcut to frequenty texted contacts, where maybe it would make a buttom or sometime where you would just launch it and a compose text screen would come up already with contacts name in it.

Does anyone have any ideas or anything similiar.

If all your contacts were on Twitter, all you would need to do would be to send it to their username . . . @johnsmith: @Janedoe: etc. Twitter is my new addiction. I like it because I can send/receive messages from my tweets either through my IM app on my Treo, through googletalk on my desktop, or directly from the web page. My family is on twitter now quite a bit and its a great way for us all to stay in touch . .
Also, on my 680, once I select them from the contact list once, they appear in the drop down list by the to: so its easy to select them the next time I start one . .

My tweets? Oh my word, if anything would cause me to go running in the opposite direction of some programs, unbearably cute slang or shorthand created by the creator of the software -or worse, its users - is it.

    ;-)

Tweets has got to pretty much the worst I've heard so far, but Peeps, Friends (as per FaceBook, MySpace, et al and who are blatantly anything but), to Skype or to be Skyped or worse, Googled - all are fairly cringe-making.

Still, I guess its nice your family are all atwitter, now....

LOL! MleB, make no mistake! "Tweets" is their slang, not mine . . . . And run the other way, but its a great way to send out a message once and reach everyone . . Others I have tried: Jaiku and Groovr. Dodgeball is one I run from unless you are a teen/tween . . . Hooking up is the main objective there . . .

BTW, signed up for Jaiku and within one day, some guy invited me to join the group everythingtreo, and made me an admin . . . I thought it was Chris . . Best I can tell, this guy had nothing to do with this site. . . . .

Jaiku is nice and gaining popularity . . . Groovr was the nicest interface IMO, but no one I wanted to talk to was there.
Twitter (yea, I hate the name) seemed to work the best, and was the most flexable . . For example, I can turn off someone's notifications . . . On Groovr, you have to delete them as a friend . . .

TakePhone (www.shsh.com) interfaces with the contacts database and has bunches of options, one including SMS, another including email, and so forth. Ben

Yeah, well - I guessing the obvious term for users on something called twitter - Twits - would be a hard sell and I they thought better of it...

    Still.... "Tweets"?

    Euwww.

It sounds like you've tried many of the services and more power to you for trying - though frankly, I've tried to stay well clear of them all, despite (or because of) the hype surrounding this brand of communication.

I don't 'do' IM nor SMS, have no desire to have my email 'pushed' (the term itself says it all) and always check the phone ID on my cell for incoming calls. Sorry, but I (and dam* few others IMHO) need to be that accessible.

Especially if it's incoming from one of my Tweets.

But we digress - it sounds like twitter and TakePhone will work for kewltechdude...
