Foreign Language Apps

Does anyone actually use a foreign language tutor/flashcard/dictionary? There are tons of them out there, but has anyone gone through the trouble of comparing/contrasting the different ones?

I'm mostly interested in a nice dictionary and being able to assemble flashcards of words I should know.

For the flashcards, I'd like to be able to define alternate answers, like "avion" should be scored correctly for "plane" or "airplane". "Car" should score correctly for "el coche" or "el automovil". I'd prefer something that accepts articles so if it asks "map", the correct answer is "el mapa", not "la mapa".
