gmail quirkiness

I wasn't able to download new email from gmail for a couple of weeks. My mail was being forwarded to fastmail and I was able to retreive it that way. By the way I'm using chattermail. I was still able to send email using my gmail account.
Finally I decided to archive all my mail in the inbox. Sure enough, that did it. I'm now able to get new mail from gmail.
Before trying that I had emailed tech support for chatter and he mentioned that gmail setup is odd and can sometimes be troublesome.
Just wanted to share my experience in case someone runs into this problem.
