Has Anyone Tried Avvenu...I Like It
I wrote about this at Mobile Ministry Magazine but wanted to know what folks here at EV think of Avvenu and if they find it as pleasurable to use as I do.
Here is a quote from the writeup at Mobile Ministry Magazine (http://tinyurl.com/e2o6j)
I took a look at the program/service called Avvenu. Basically, I had never heard of this service until reading a few reviews of Palm's new TX model and how this program is designed of make it quite simple for someone to access files on their home/work computer.
You would have to click on the link to read more about what I thought of it, but I would really like to know what folks think. It could be one of those paradigm changing apps ya know.
[Thanks Chris for letting me post this here]

It looks really good and its free! But I am just so paranoid about security that I cant see myself using it.

I feel you there. I think its a start though for its simplicity. Iwonder if there is a business grade version that does have all the [nice] security protocols. That would make this service an easy no brainer over many VP/VNC setups.

Yeah, its almost as if we become more suspicious of something like that when its free! What's their motivation?
I'd like to see a business solution, too.

Avvenu Security
The Avvenu service is designed to meet the needs of consumers and mobile professionals to easily manage remote PC access and sharing without the need for IT assistance. Whether a consumer is accessing a photo from their home computer, or a business executive is accessing a presentation from their desktop PC, security is a core feature of the Avvenu service. Secure SSL connections are maintained between the PC and Avvenu’s servers using trusted Verisign certificates. Requests from the server are only made through this secure tunnel which blocks malicious attacks from the Internet. The servers also protect the user’s credentials to thwart the possibility of hackers stealing information that would allow access to a user's PC. Finally, all requests and data transfers between the Avvenu servers and the user’s web browser are done using SSL to protect both the content and the user’s authentication information from being captured on the Internet
For additional information on the Avvenu service or security concerns, please visit the Avvenu web site at http://www.avvenu.com/questions/index.html.

avvenu and xinno
Avvenu doesn't work with Xinno. Must be something to do with the double consonants in the names of the programs.......
anyway to get it to work with Xinno?????

I have tried Avvenu and it has come in handy. Is there a way (or will there be) to use PROGRAMS that reside on my PC while I'm away using my Palm?

If you are saying what I think it is that you are saying, then you are looking for a full VPN solution. For government and corporate computers, you will want to talk to your IT person/dept. to verify that you have permissions to use and install VPN/VNC software on your computer if it is not already there. If you do have that already, then you would need to work with a program like PalmVNC, Mergic VPN, and a few others that dont come to mind at the moment.
A program like Avvenu seems to be geared first towards just getting files from a computer onto your Treo/wireless PDA for use on that device locally. Using a program in the manner that you are describing would require a good deal more security on the part of a browser based software such as Avvenu.

Thanks Antoine, I am not a corp or gov user,,,I think GoToMyPC advertises that one can access files and programs,,,Avvenu is free of course, but I thought it would be nice to access AIM from my PC without having to buy a chat program for my Treo

Ah. The UK version of AIM was/is free and you should still be able to download it if that is all you need. Other IM clients are for pay as far as I know. Check freewarepalm.com for any that might be free and compatable.
