How to delete mp3 files from SD card?

Hi, I am using an sd card and have decided that I will use the Palm Quick Install to install mp3 files. That takes a long time, and I might try PilotInstall.

But my question has to do with deleting files once I get them on the sd card. Once I'm done listening to an mp3 file (such as a podcast) on pTunes, I want to be able to delete it. When I try to delete a file through pTunes, it crashes. Thus, I downloaded FileZ, but when I try to delete a file through that, it says, "This operation can't be performed on a card."

So how to delete mp3 files off an sd card???

I'm not familiar with PilotInstall. You're right, using Quick Install is not the preferred method for putting media on the card. It can take a long time when it works. With a large number of songs, it will often hang up. Your best bet here would be to drag and drop things from your computer onto your card, if it has an SD card slot. If not, a reader can be obtained for about $10 from most electronic stores.

So how to delete mp3 files off an sd card???

I rarely used FileZ, as I used the built-in file manager in ZLauncher. The card reader method will work equally as well for deleting files from your SD card. Essentially, your computer will see the card as it would any other external storage device, allowing you to manipulate the files as you see fit. Hope this helps.

So there is no software or method to delete mp3 files from an sd card without being near a laptop??

I don't think I did a good job explaining myself. FileZ is a very popular file mgmt app, which can manage the files on your SD card, too. I don't have my Treo in front of me and didn't use FileZ enough to give you step-by-step from memory or figure out where your error message came from.

The are other file managers out there, which will do it as well. Resco Explorer is a very popular one. As I mentioned earlier, I used ZL's built-in file manager.

Bottom line, it can be done. Since you have FileZ installed, I'd suggest giving it another go. A soft reset before trying might do the trick for you.

I have done soft resets, and I still can't delete files from my sd card using FileZ. I can't delete them when I've connected the Treo to WMP11. Basically, if I try to delete them in any way, shape or form, the Treo freezes.

Is there any sort of lock or something like that on an sd card that prevents deletion??

There is a little sliding tab in the upper corner to make the card read-only. It's similar to the one that used to be on cassette tapes (if you can remember those). It's possible yours needs to be put back to read/write.

The fact that it's freezing your Treo leads me to believe there may be something else going on. It's possible you may have a corrupt file on your card. If you've got the card contents that you want on your computer, it might not be a bad idea to reformat the card (in the Treo, not on your computer). That leads me to another question: Did you format the card on your computer or Treo before using it?
