Default new MP3 player - mPod...

from Motionapps - this is a beta:

http://www.motionapps.com/products.jsp?mpod

looks interesting. I plan on trying it out in the next week or two. I would be interested in some of you pTunes folks giving it a try and comparing.

While I'm a fan of Motionapps software (I have mRing and mLights on my Treo). I think they're coming to the market too late with this. pTunes has already established itself as the de facto standard for mobile music (on the Treo, calm down, iPod fanboys... ). I may download the demo just to see what it offers, but I don't see it having a significant feature advantage over pTunes. Right now, it would take that or major issues with pTunes to get me to switch to anything else.

Jeff - I was hoping someone like you would take a look since you have pTunes. I have nothing but Realplayer right now and will eventually get something else. However, I will say the Shoutcast capabilities of pTunes is probably worth the higher price.

Yeah, I'll give it a test drive and see what it can do. As I said, I think Motionapps makes some quality software, I just think the timing is kind of like someone coming out now with a new OS and trying to go head-to-head with Linux or Microsoft.

I am with Jeff! mpod might rock!! But my Trial of pTunes was pretty impressive! Its certainly on my soon to buy list. As far as shoutcast feeds, I only found two out of about 1000 (an exaggeration) that would play on my Treo with edge. And those were like 8 bit talk shows! I am sure its better for people closer to large cities with better reception. But most of my streams spent more time buffering than they did playing. That said, what an awesome, and stable MP-3 player!
Looks like they have come up with a virtual ipod scroll wheel! now with a name that has pod in it, and a certain navigation that resembles something so proprietary as the ipod, I am wondering if there won't at some point be a lawsuit??

I wondered about that too. The interface is very clean. I like the ability to use the 5-way to control playback. Another selling point is the filesize. At just under 200k, it's about 700k smaller than pTunes. That will make it a good option for those with dwindling free RAM.
One negative, IMO, is that it doesn't support the SideKey to control playback. This is one thing I really like about pTunes when I have my Treo in its holster.

It was my signature that I changed this morning! Firefox and IE wrap text differently. My new signature was extending. Appreciate the heads up! I changed the wrap from the default in the USER CP to a smaller wrap and removed the Horizontal lines. It should display correctly now . . . . Thanks!
