Palm Sync disabling

Is there some setting on a Treo that would cause the Palm software HotSync options to grey out after 1 sync?

Here is what happens, I have palm software set to sychronize the files on calendar, contacts and such. I can sync once and then if I try to do another sync it errors out. If I go up to Hotsync>Custom or Setup, all of the options are greyed out. I made sure under options that it was set to Always Available. The other thing I noticed is that it disappears from the sys tray after the initial sync.

I've tried restarting Palm software and creating a new user account and none of that restores the HotSync function. The only thing that works is restarting the computer.
