VersaMail & Gmail Issues - Treo Forums

I have a Gmail account and enabed POP on it. It works fine, and e-mail is sent and received properly with VersaMail, the only thing is when I send mail from my PC and connect from my Treo to retrieve e-mail, it also pulls up all the mail I sent on my Gmail account from my PC, and dumps them into the Inbox and I manually have to go through them and sort and move them to the Sent folder.

I tried setting a filter in the Preferences that said all e-mail with my name in the "From" field would be downloaded and automatically moved to the "Sent" folder. The problem with that is it is only downloading e-mails sent by me and moving them automatically to my sent folder and nothing else; meaning it is not downloading any other e-mail at all so I can't get any of my new messages. I am able to get my new e-mails when I turn the filter off though, but that takes me back to my original issue of having all of my "Sent" items being deposited into my "Inbox" with all my other incoming e-mails.

Is there a way to have the best of both worlds here, all of my incoming e-mails going to my "Inbox" and all of the e-mails I send from my PC automatically downloaded and moved to my "Sent" folder in VersaMail?

Hey Phøenix, although I'm not sure as to why that is occuring, I'm sure there is someone here that has used that app before.

Once I get my Treo I'll try that and see if I get the same error.

Thats indeed a weird problem. SOunds like the filter you created is overriding any other 'rules' that might be in place.

Gmail has this weird thing of always sending you a copy of any mail that you sent, and it downloads thru POP. I wonder if somewhere in GMail, tehre is a setting for not doing that that would alleivate your issue (that is if you dont want to see sent mail in your Treo).

No, I do want to see my sent mail, I would just like to to automatically go into my "Sent" folder in VersaMail rather than them going into my "Inbox" and me manually having to sort and move them.

Is there a way to do this?

I dont know that what you ask can be done.

I'd recommend SnapperMail as that seems to be the mail client of choice for those who are looking for something more robust from their Treo's emailing abilities.

Is that a free app. or something I have to pay for? VersaMail came free bundled with my Verizon software.

No, SnapperMail is not free. In terms of other free email clients, none are as good as VersaMail unfortunately. Sorry :sad:

Hello.
I use Gmail as well. I believe the problem comes from the way gmail groups your messages. So if you send a message from your pc, your treo sees it as a new message because it is the beginning of a "conversation" according to gmail.
If you really dont like it, have your gmail forwarded to another email account and have your treo retrieve it from there.
My setup is : gmail account, forwarded to fastmail (IMAP). I also use chattermail. Versamail is too buggy.
