well i've got it figureout. I tis with your carrier. Youmust get "authorized " by your server in order to send email with thier smtp settings. It will only take a call to customer service and let them know you need to get authorization and then when you set up your email acct. on versamail you'll use your phone carriers smtp settings in the outgoing portion and also use the "requires authorization (esmtp)" in the advanced section with the username and password.

Have you contacted Roadrunner? Looks like it might be them (from Palm's site):
Error 550 5.7.1 Relaying Denied
What to do
This error may occur when your outgoing POP or IMAP (SMTP) server settings are set correctly, but your mobile service provider's mail server does not allow relaying of email to other SMTP servers. The error can be solved by contacting your mobile service provider's technical support and requesting assistance to set up your outgoing (SMTP) server. Your carrier should set up VersaMail to use their outgoing (SMTP) server.
Another site had this:
I configured Versamail with RoadRunner with no problems. Here are the settings:
incoming server: pop-server.hvc.rr.com (if you're in nyc substitute nyc for hvc...or whatever region you are in)
outgoing server: cwmx.com

I've got Hughesnet as my provider. I ended up doing what GhostWalker had posted about the authorization part, and bingo. Works like a charm.

As of about a year ago, you had to be wired in to the Roadrunner network in order to send through their server. Checking not a problem, sending you just gotta use someone else.
