So far, I've gotten a kick out of using Blazer with www.gopherking.com which allows a fairly secure, fast way of picking up HotMail, AOL mail and my regular pop3 e-mail.

The other hoot I had was using Win-Hand from www.palmgear.com to remote control my Windows ME remotely through its cable modem connection to the internet. It was freaky seeing my Windows desktop on the Treo screen and clicking on programs, running them, doing all sorts of typical things.

When I'm downtown, I pull up Yellow Page listings for businesses in the area and help me figure out what's where. I think my next project is to get a good city map on my Treo so I can navigate better to the more obscure streets I don't know.

Overall, I'm pleased with what the Treo does but I'm horrified to imagine what an inexperienced user would think of setting it up to connect to the internet and what their perception would be of the often shaky connection abilities. I hope most users will not be turned off to the possibilities because of the somewhat uneven GSM carrier service in North America and the patch work quilt of different ways to connect.

Connector23

I'm using Earthlink as my dial-up ISP. My GSM carrier seems to be able to let me dial-up fairly reliably, maybe 80% of the time. I guess this would seem shockingly bad compared to a Mac or Windows desktop dial-up but I'm willing to accept that we're in the early stages of a wireless revolution so things are sloooowwww and not totally dependable yet. I'm looking forward to GPRS in the not too distant future.

Well, it would be great if I could register on this forum. Something needs fixin' (Grin.....)

However, I can report that so far I have used my USA version os Treo in USA, Holland, Germany, Italy and the UK and Singapore and HK to access email and the web. I use ATT GlobalNet as my ISP which has a handy Palm OS dialer available from their website and automatically sets up the local access number for the internet in every country. SMS seems to work fine in and out too whilst overseas and I am getting the regular Yahoo alerts and airline messages from NWA and Continental when I travel. Of course I am on Voicesream to be able to do this. It is real handy being able to send and receive email from anywhere and with SMS my office can find me anywhere fast!

I'm looking forward to the "always-on" connection and I'd love an onboard telephone answering program for short messages, and also a reliable auto email grabber that just dials up and gets my email for me on a regular basis. I'd like the vibrator in my Treo to vibrate rather than just hum.........

Great device - that actually works!

JA, I use ATT Global Net too, but can't find the Palm OS dialer on their web site.  Can you advise on the URL?
Thanks.

You mention what the novice wouild think trying to get around with this little monster.  Well I am a novice and it has been really tough. SPRINT tech support is worthless. I bought my machine last friday and I bet I have been on hold for over 15 hours with very little to show for it. Luckily in 2 or 3 of those calls I was able to get some info. Handspring was also helpful when it came to hotsync problems. You mention gopherking or something like that. I would like to be able to pick up my hotmail and AOL mail. How tough would that be?Also , I was proud of myself when I downloaded BigClock and got it to work. Now I have an alarm clock. Here are 2 more questions while I am at it. Is there a key to click or double click to redial the last number dialed? Also, when you are finished with the internet is there a way to log off and shut it down or do you have to shut the machine off?It seems as if it just stays logged on if you only close the case.
Final question-is it OK to leave the charger plugged in to the wall all the time and connecting the phone when you want to charge or should I unplug the unit whan I am not using it to charge the Treo? Does it hurt it to keep it plugged in all the time?

hot mail is a pop3 email (post office protocol)
Unfortunatley I can't help you setting up the 300 to send and receive your pop3 email. I'm a 270 user and from what all I've read about Sprint and setting it up to send and receive other pop3 email can be a nightmare (not to scare you, it can be done) try using Eudora, it's a free email app to send and receive your pop3 email.

As far as your AOL mail goes you should use AOL 3.0 for palm. Works great and runs very similarly to the desktop version. It's $19.95 but worth it if you want to send and receive your AOL mail. When setting it up just make sure you set it up to use "another ISP" for your connection that way it will not use AOL dial up numbers to connect.

There's a direct way to read hotmail email. Go to the
forum at treocentral.com, then search for hotmail.
