    Default Help for TomTom

Hello, I am new to the world of smart phones and GPS but I love technology and usually I am pretty good about figuring set up on things however the TomTom Navigator 5 is giving me a run for my money it frustrated me something bad Friday night and I was real close to just returning it. First I try to download the software and the instructions are not very clear (to my understanding) of course I am also trying to learn my new treo 650 at the same time as I got them in the mail the same day, anyhow I can't get it to sync right and when I try to load the CD I could not get the dialog box to show up for what seemed like forever so I ejected the CD and it showed up. I also tried (while the CD was in) to go through "my computer" and then the drive but it said that setup was running. I could not get a phone number on TomToms website for support and that got me even more mad. Does any one have step by step instructions to install this software or can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Are you seeing anything when opening up the CD? I'm on a Mac, but if I recall I had options to:
    Install Navigator
    Install Maps
    Add Voices

You'll want to install Navigator. TomTom should recognize your HotSync application and place Navigator into your HotSync for installation.

You'll need an SD Card for installation of maps. The installation of maps takes a quite a bit of time.

Sorry I cannot be of more assistance, I'm in the process of moving...and my TomTom stuff is boxed up.

    Default The TomTom

No I am not getting those options it asks me to load the application CD and then comes up with the screen that asks me to sync at that time I do so and get errors I try to continue with the first map CD but nothing happens. After downloading the applications CD do I need to get out completely and then insert the first map CD or how does that work. I am at the end of my rope with this thing and very frustrated.

I would suggest trying to focus on installing the application before worrying about the maps. The maps take awhile to install. I ended up downloading the Installer from TomTom and used it with the CD inserted.

    Here's their support area:

Has the installer asked whether you're installing for Pocket PC or Palm OS. I believe that was another dialog box. Once again, not having the CD on hand, I'm trying to recall the dialog boxes.

I just bought TomTom 5 about a month ago and I love it. I'm on XP and I didn't have a single problem. There is a quick install guide that I followed and I was up and running in about 10 minutes. The maps take a while to transfer to your SD card because some of the region maps are 150MB +.

I had the install program "hang" on me once or twice. I just ended the process [ctrl + alt + del, then second tab] and opened and closed again the cd tray, and it worked fine. There is some kind of bug there, I think, but you can definitely get around it.

I love the Tom Tom - it has made my life soooo much easier and less stressful! Plus, it's a great way to show off your Treo!

Default already installed Tomtom nav 5 takes forever to hotsync

I've been using Tomtom Nav. 5 for quite a while, and just installed it to my new treo 650. Maps on SD card, app installed as directed. Everything works great. BUT.... Each and every time I do my daily hotsync, it takes FOREVER (i.e., overnight :mad because it hangs on "synchronizing Navigator" on the phone and it says "backing up currentmap.dat" on the Hotsync progress dialog box on the pc. Everything is enabled on my sync manager, the SD card is inserted, and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong! I d/l the latest software for the treo. I must be doing something fundamentally wrong here, but I can't figure out what! Any ideas? Anyone?

Could be one of two conduits enabled that are causing this -- Backup or TomTom Conduit. Try disabling/enabling those and see if it resolves your issue.
