Installing TomTom on SD card
Has anyone installed TomTom on their SD card? I'm assumig that would be everyone, since internal memory isnt large enough to hold the app AND maps.
I was able to install on the Treo 650 but the maps wont fit on there obviously, but when i try to install them on the SD card, Missing Sync gives me a sync error . . . 10760. I can mount the SD card, but all it does is put the files on there without associating it or stringing it to any programs.
I also tried to remove TomTom from the internal to install on the SD but then I get an error message when trying to start up from the card . . . armcode not allocated.
While I'm waiting for TomTom support to get back to me, does anyone have any suggestions or comments on what they might have done differently?
I'm on a Powerbook 15" running OSX 10.4.3 and a Treo 650 running Verizon 1.04 firmware and a 1GB SanDisk SD card. And I did run the installation from TomTom Setup 1.0.4

Could someone answer soon, I'm waiting to buy. . .
a Tom Tom bundle for my Treo 650 but want to know if the bluetooth connectivity is reliable. Also if I get the wired version can I still use it outside of my car for street navigation on foot?
I'm also interested in the answer to the previous member's post about how to get the maps and application onto an SD card.

Hi Chris,
I have a few questions regarding the Tomtom Navigator 5 for my Treo 650 before I buy, and I hope you can answer them. Your review was excellent, and I'm 90% sure already in buying the software, but I have doubts on several things:
1. How much space that the software required on your Treo650? My Treo is almost full right now (only 2 MB left). I have 1GB HD (± 400MB empty), but having tried the Mapopolis Navigator with that space is difficult, I wonder whether the Tomtom will act the same?
2. Most of the reviews I found on the net is pairing the Treo with bluetooth GPS, but I guess with that option you loose the ability of using the bluetooth headset (am I right?). So I'm considering the wired GPS (I'm gonna use the GPS mainy inside the car anyway). Which one do you think is the best?
Thanks in advance for your answer,
Verdy

I just checked my Treo and it's odd , I couldn't find Navigator or TomTom. I'm guessing both apps are titled Contacts Navigation. I have the Navigator on my Treo -- and the Contacts Navigation app on the card. Both are relatively small -- weighing in at 150k. Maps of course should be installed on the Treo. I'm travelling this weekend. When I return, I'll look further to see what I can find.

With the Bluetooth, you have a portable GPS solution. With wired, you have the full use of your Bluetooth headset. When using the Bluetooth version, your headset will interupt the GPS -- however, it returns when you hang up. I'm not sure what's involved in the wiring also --
I prefer the Bluetooth version -- considering you can use it walking through Manhattan, in your car or while travelling.

Check out this thread for Mac users to install TomTom. I had issues with the TomTom install CD's. I too am using Missing Sync -- installed the app on my Treo and the Maps reside on the SD card.

Chris,
Is TomTom app and maps on your SD card or directly on the Treo? I thought maps would be too big for the internal memory. And if they are on your SD card, how were you able to direct them there . . . bcs when i tried to install the app and maps, there are no files that show up in the Missing Sync box. They all get put into a folder called TomTom Navigator under the Palm user folder, and I try to manually move them to the SD card, but they do not successfully associate.
Thanks.

lol, i guess you were replying to my older message while i was punching out a new one in response to your newer one, so i apologize for the double question.
I did use both a conduit that i found on macosxhints, and the installer you suggested. those flow with no problem, my big problem now is getting it into the proper place on the treo. Right now i'm erasing everything and trying again from scratch. I just upgraded to missing sync 5 too so i hope maybe that will solve some problems, since 4 was giving me mounting problems anyhow.

The maps definitely belong on the SD card. It's been a while since I did the install. If I recall correctly, I did the application install first -- then I added maps.

You definitely cannot move them manually. TomTom is very particular about piracy, so drag-n-drop won't work. Definitely use the installer.
Basically, I ran the installer twice. The first time to install the app on the Treo itself. Second time to install the maps. I'm away from my desktop this weekend as I'm travelling. If you continue to have issues, I'd be happy to look into it further come Monday afternoon.
I will be checking the site over the weekend, so feel free to ask questions. I'll do what I can to help from here in the "windy city".

Tom Tom and other GPS Software
Is there any place to indicate which of these seems to work best on Treo 650, comparisons, etc.?

hi,
This might be an interesting weblink to find out opinions and review of GPS-software and TomTom. http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/
But if you ask my personal opinion 'TomTom' rocks
You just need to figure out how the software works, etc. That's with everyting hardware and software, you just need to get used to it).
Hope link will be usefull information to you
