Pardon me for not being able to visualize this, but do you think if I have the Sony headset in my pocket as well (on my head would of course negate the value of the feature) it would be easier to look at that caller id and leave the Treo in my pocket vs. look at the Treo put on the headset and be able to flash to another call via the headset or redail if I'm disconnected.
Depends on the situation. I've been using the strap that comes with the Sony. My wife thinks I'm geeky to be wearing my Bluetooth headset. I've also had many comments asking about the headset (and mostly positive when finding out what it is). Not all situations allow you to "wear your headset around your neck". In a business setting this is far from appropriate.

The best scenario would be to have the Caller ID display the name of the caller /call missed and allow redial. That's in a perfect world and we're not there yet.

While I haven't used the Palm headset, I'm guessing it's a perfectly fine headset -- I mean they make the Treo -- the headset has got to be nicely integrated with the phone. So, either way..depending on your needs.. you cannot go wrong with either.

Chris:

Thanks for the comments. I'm a bit stuck as you can tell and hate buying sight unseen.

Default Bluetooth Headsets

I have three headsets:
  1. BT800
  2. BT250v
  3. Treo Headset (PalmOne)
I originally bought the BT800 for use with another phone, and found it difficult to use, pairing was fairly easy,I liked the form factor and the fact that I could charge it either with an AC adapter or the USB port of my computer BUT I could NOT keep the thing on my ear.Apparently,my eyeglasses and the BT800 did not get along quite well. And for the price of the headset,I was not keen on losing it.

So my quest continued....shortly after purchasing the BT800 I finally purchased my unlocked Treo, and I tried to use the headset with the Treo, but all the features were not supported, and also the fact I wasn't really able to wear it with my eyeglasses (or sunglasses which I typically use when in the car) were not endearing.

So ,I do some more searching, and ask my other friends with Treos...one recommends the BT250-that she also wore glasses and the headset seemed comfortable and she had no problems with it sold me on trying it out myself.Around the same time the Treo headset from PalmOne was released,so I bought them both.

Again, the difficulting in wearing with my eyeglasses-but it is certainly a great headset to travel with considering there is one charger for both my Treo and the headset.

And finally, the BT250v,it has been my constant companion for the last month or two,I have no complaints, and most importantly neither do my clients or family members when I am speaking to them while using it.

I'd love a headset with the caller ID functionality that is also compatible with my Treo, but also, the display should be easily visible, after all with the BT800 its great but I had to take the headset off in order to see who was calling-it was actually easier to fish for my Treo in my briefcase or handbag ! Defeated the purpose really....

Just my two cents.

Tried both the Jabra BT250 (and the V) -- I did not like how it fit on my ear. I know I have heard and read other people that say they are extremely comfortable. Maybe my ears are too big but they felt like they were grabbing my ear. Also, hummed like mad when I was on a WiFi connection. My rearly cheap Motorola didn't.

Sent those back and got the Bluespoon Ax. Hmm. Their literature talks about a 10 meter radius of use. It's more like 10 centimeters. Unless I'm holding the phone within 1 foot of my ear, the static is pretty bad.

They're going back.

I'm now going to try the Sony's that Chris and the other's have been going on about.

I'm very happy with the quality of the Sony. It occaisionally hurts my ear. I can't quite get it to lay on my ear right and not hurt after about 20 minutes. Anybody got any ideas?

(and, hey, I'm slow here but what the heck happened to the layout of the forum? did I miss a memo or is it just my machine?)

narbeauchamp: On another thread, another member described the pairing problem (has to be done everytime) with the Jabra 250 and the T650. I have the same problem. I have a Jabra 250v sitting here unopened in the box. Before I open it, do you have the same pairing problem? If so, I'm gonna go with the Pa1mOne.

Haven't used the Jabra 250v, but it is compatible with the Treo 650. I can't comment on how it compares to other headsets though. I pulled this from the FAQ on our store page for the 250v:
  • How do I pair the headset with my Treo?

With the headset off, press and hold the talk button and the volume up button until you see a solid blue light (about 8 seconds).

On your Treo, click on the Bluetooth icon in the top left corner of the screen. Then click on Setup Devices, then Hands-free setup, then next, then wait until the headset appears. Click on the headset and when prompted enter the passkey 0000.

Chris: Thanks. That's exactly how I've been pairing my J250 and it kinda defeats the purpose of having a Bluetooth. How does your Sony pair with the T650? Has anyone described how the P1 pairs? I've been using Jabras for 3 years and their customer service is top notch; I kinda lean towards Jabra but this pairing issue is silly IMHO. I wanna open the new J250v box so badly but if I go with P1 or Sony I want to be able to list it on ebay as "never opened".
