Default Treo 650 + native car Bluetooth + Verizon

I'm in the market for a new car and Bluetooth support would be a nice feature. Several makes (Ford, Honda, Acura, BMW, Audi to name a few) have BT options. Some, such as Audi, officially support the Treo 650, but for GSM models only. Others, such as BMW & Acura, officially support the Treo 650, but for Sprint only! I find this strange, especially since Verizon, also a CDMA network, has phones with similar capabilities. I find this stranger because some luky few (posted elsewhere in these forums) have been able to successfully pair a VZW Treo 650 with their car (specifically, an Acura TL).

What are folk's experiences getting the Treo 650 under Verizon to work with their BT-equipped cars? And the makes? Anyone?

Thanks.

Default Follow-up thought

Also, can anyone smarter than I explain why the same version of Bluetooth, supposedly a universal protocol, in the same vehicle can work with some carriers and not with others? Does it have to do with a profile that's crippled under Verizon but "healthy" under Sprint or T-Mobile?

Default BMW Thoughts

I already had my Treo 650 (Verizon) when I got my BMW 325i. Both Verizon and BMW say that it's not officially supported but I have it working (somewhat..)

The car and the phone pair well and all the functions (that I want) work without problem, except... sometimes the phone and the car do not pair up even though there is a trust setup.

It gets a bit agravating when you forget and try to make a call from the car using the internal phone book (I have it setup to call my house and wife at work, etc.)

I have been searching for a solution but it seems that only Sprint has officially supported it.

Net,Net.. it works but there are times when you have to force it. I have not had a problem where the connection is broken once established

Good luck

Similar situation as rickmaan, but different result. I had my Treo 650 (Verizon) when I got my 2005 BMW 325i. While the BMW dealer was glowing about my pending ability to use the bimmer's hands-free with the phone, it never panned out. Sure, I can pair the two just fine. But when I initiate a call using the bimmer's phone system, I can hear the dialtone, the beep-beep-boop of dialing and the ring on the other end. When someone answers, however, my Treo hardboots and the call (naturally) drops.

Funny how the 2006 BMW 325i is officially supported, though.

BMW points fingers at Verizon and Verizon is happy to suggest I buy a newer bimmer and the official site has stopped dishing out any BT-related info for the Treo 650, period.

Not sure what car you are looking for but I have a Treo 700W and it works very well with the Toyota Prius. I know from conversations in Prius chat groups that the 650 also works well. Of course working well is relative due to the impact that Verizon has on modifying what Bluetooth features will work.
