Using a USB Adapter

I was in hopes of using a D-Link USB Adapter to my WINXP Desktop to use the 650 to use email, internet connection, and transfer data back and forth. Has anyone successfully done this. First, I can't get the total connection to work, the PC recognizes the handheld and the 650 chimes, but there is no active anything. Reading help screens, the USB Adapter may only be able to do a wireless sync - I thought it would also transfer files, etc. Please let me know if you have any info for me - I really appreciate it...
