Default 700p, salt in the wound...

As if it weren't difficult enough to be a Cingular subscriber, now it is even harder. Even if we were to get something as awesome as the 700p, or the w for that matter, we wouldn't even get to enjoy that high speed data love.

Salt in the wound, that's what I say.

I don't think Cingular wants the "P". At least not until they do have their high speed network in place. Of course, it will more than likely be more expensive than Verizon's, and they still won't offer insurance on a PDA. T-mobile dropped the Treo after many 600 snafus, and cingular knows they are the only big GSM game in town! Verizon is soon going to eat them for lunch if they don't make some changes! My problem: Here in the sticks, for the moment, they really are the best bet I have!!! Sprint is coming on, and Verizon has made some very quick improvements! But up until a year ago, my best choices were Cingular and Altel for the best local coverage.

The bottom line: they are all a bunch of crooks . . . . .

You're right. Cingy probably doesn't want the p right now. It would be almost useless to them. But that rumored firmware upgrade would great for them. That would level the playing field a bit. or at least give me something exciting to look forward to.

The 3G, the next generation of GSM, which is in Europe already and other parts of the world (who are using GSM - is there anybody that's not?) is waiting to get here.
I agree that Cingular better get things moving if they want to be at the top and upgrade their systems for 3G.
