    I believe on most phones, (treo 680 included) Cingular offers a couple of options . . A two year plan, a one year plan or buying the phone outright, which is what i did this last time. You pay more for the phone, but your not tied down to anything too longterm . .

    Maybe get one via ebay? Of course, that would mean it's not "new" but most likely still very functional. Or check out the various buy and sell forums for a Treo. Again, they are not new. The other option is to purchase unlocked ones from vendors overseas that may offer a better price.

    I bought mine in Hong Kong when I went there last March. Best thing since they sell them never locked. Of course, they are still more expensive but you aren't tied to a contract.
