What are people telling you won't work ? Maybe the people who keep telling you it won't work have verizon or sprint (which as far as I know generally will not work in Europe) ? You should be fine if you have international roaming set up with your account.I don't use Cingular with my Treo, use T-Mobile-but have been fine using Cingular with my quad band phones,or using local SIM cards with said phones.

Narbeauchamp is correct! CDMA does not work in Europe.
I called a friend of mine on his cell phone, Cingular service, and he answered. What I didn't know was that he was in Paris at the time. Yes, he had a roaming plan. You can also do local SIM cards once you are in a country.
