    Default Sim Question

I am a new-b to the Treo, just replaced my Mpx220. I have the grandfathered unlimited media plan, and my internet works on it. I currently have my old 32k sim in it, and I am afraid to activate the new 64k sim. Will the new sim make it faster? Could it make them notice I am now on a PDA and make me switch to the $40 plan? Thanks! I'm so excited for this awesome device

Hi Jules3, welcome to the forums.

I quote the old addage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

To answer your question, the SIM card will not change how fast your net connection is on your phone.
As for the 32 vs the 64, it's just the number of contacts you can save on the SIM that makes the difference is all.

So, do you have two SIM cards?
Did you get a SIM card w/the Treo, from the provider?

If you bought the phone from the provider as an upgrade, then it won't matter what SIM you use, if they updated their records, which they normally do.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks, that is sort of how I feel. Has anyone noticed an increase/decrease in reception with a new 64k sim instead of an older 32k sim? I have heard bad things about the new cards, but I know that they allow more ATT roaming, or something along those lines.

You will want to use the new card as you might find fewer issues with the new SIM card than with the old one. I do reember some time ago that there was some issue with SIM cards, but dont remember if they were 32 or 64 cards that had the issue. In most cases though, using the newer SIM is a better deal than using the old one.

Now, if you old one has all the phone numbers and info you need to get off of it, then you have to use that one for that feature.

well, i guess i should have stuck to my guns...I had a 32k Gemplus SIM, and they sent me a new 64k Gemplus SIM, with the new card there is an error and I can not use the phone. The old one worked fine. Now I have no service whatsoever, and have to go to a store and get an Axalto, cuz they won't reactivate my old SIM. You would think the people sending out the phones that we PAY for would know which Sim goes with it...

Ah, the Gemplus issue was resolved sometime earlier this year if I am not mistaken. Sorry to hear that was the reason for your issue.

I went to the Cingular store, they popped an Axalto Sim in, and now it is fine. Hopefully it will stay that way, because I can't wait to play with it tonight - customize, DL software, the works...
