Voicemail and default settings on Treo 650 (Cingular)
Last summer, my voicemail quit working on Cingular - I found out when a client called my home phone saying he couldn't get into voicemail calling my mobile number. That's how I found out that Cingular had reconfigured their voicemail system, and I had to dial a new number to set up my voicemail preferences, and dial that same new number henceforth to get my messages.
After being frustrated by my inability to change the Voicemail defaults on my Treo 650 ("1" key - the "favorites button" doesn't seem to be re-configurable for voicemail), I developed a workaround, by dragging that button to a later screen, and replacing it with a new favorites button with the updated voicemail number and assigning it the hot key "V". This works fine, *except* that when I get the new voicemail notification (alarm), it provides me the option to dial directly to voicemail, using the old (unalterable?) assigned number. Ditto from the "2Day" screen, which must be using the same default.
Does anybody know how I can change this?
It's not a major problem, but I'm getting sick of the extra steps to get my voicemail.

I haven't had to change my voicemail and how its mapped even though Cingular just upgraded my VM. But it appears that I can edit it. I highlighted the button, and then went to menu/edit Favorites button, and it opened up the same window it opens for all those buttons. I can't edit the name (Voicemail) but I can edit the number and change the ringtone default . . .

Thanks for the reply. I tried it again, thinking I must be going mad - I can edit the ringtone, but not the name OR the number. Tapping "More" only gives me the option of adding extra digits. Why is mine different from yours (and seemingly everybody else's)? It's a Cingular-branded Treo 650, with 1.17 firmware. I don't get it!!!

I too, am using FW 1.17. It looks like there are some settings different, but I don't know which. Just wondering if your using any kind of security/password protected software. Sorry I can't be more help . . .

Nope, nothing like that. I've often wondered if I should invest in something like that... Oh well. I guess I'll have to live with it!
