Good call. Although it might have found a niche market with people who couldn't make up their mind between carrying a laptop or a Treo.

I think this is a terrific move by Palm. I wonder if management felt handcuffed by Jeff Hawkins to release his pet project and finally succumbed to public pressure. Given his track record, perhaps management had to follow his vision. The lukewarm reception gave them the ammunition to make a tough internal decision. Foleo had been agressively promoted on their site and elsewhere. After the announcement, it was no where to be found. It's just a very bizarre happening, but one that will better serve Palm going forward. People want to love their Treo, but have been at the breaking point for quite some time after the lackluster "upgrades". The time is now for them to release the next generation Treo that everyone is craving. With the iPhone raising the bar in so many areas, Palm needed to focus on their core business which is the Treo.
To me, this represents a major change in Palm -- let's call it the *new* Palm. Listening to their customers and delivering (or not delivering) products they desire.

The dollar question is, what is the "new platform?" If this keeps up I will never upgrade, 'cause it makes me want to wait for the "new" thing.

I hope this means that they're focusing on the next PalmOS/Linux Treo, and finally dropping FrankenGarnet.

As time has gone by, its interesting to see the success of the low cost Linux PC! Asus Eee PC is still selling out everywhere it appears, and by the end of this month, in Walmart there will be another Linux based PC with a 30 gig hard drive. This one from Everex.
Palm's idea wasn't all bad! It just wasn't what it should have been! These Linux PC's are appearing for much cheaper than what the Foleo was supposed to sale for. Yet, they will stand alone with WiFi and don't require a phone to connect to the net. It wasn't a bad concept, but it was a flawed one certainly . . . Now, if Palm had a new Linux OS Treo, that was state of the art, and then introduced this linux compaion Laptop that would stand alone, and compliment the Treo as well, and was priced at the same price as the other Linux based PC's appearing everywhere . . . . . .
I know, I know . . . . If a frog had wings . . . . . .
