Does Treo handle data like BlackBerry or like a regular phone?
Hey everyone,
Question. I'm a home user, that's looking for a smart phone mainly to handle contacts, to do, calendar etc. But I'd also like to be able to send/receive the odd email and such. I was looking at BlackBerry but I'm really put off by the fact that all data goes through RIM's servers, and as such requires an expensive business data plan with rogers, starting at $25 for only 500k a month.
I'm just curious, does a Treo handle data like a BlackBerry, meaning you need a special plan? Or does it do it more like a RAZR or other phone? Because with Rogers for example, standard consumer data is $5 for 2mb. So I'm just wondering if I installed an IMAP mail application or something on a Treo 600, would it be able to use that 2MB data, or does it also need a special plan? Thanks!!!

Not being Canadian I have no idea about Rogers, et cetera. Sprint has unlimited Internet/SMS for around $15 then there is a cheap voice plan that goes with it. The Treo Palm OS line does data, as does Blackberry; however, you do not have to have a special server for email, et cetera. Installing an IMAP application on a Treo will use the data connection and who knows how much data. I know that my email hits well over that.

That's great, that's what I thought thanks. Just bought a Treo 650 so waiting for it to arrive now
Data in Canada is a rip off, the closest thing to unlimited data is $100 a month for 200mb.

Those rates are just plain bad. Ben
