Flaky connector

My Treo 180 has a flaky connector. It will not charge or sync unless you hold the cable just right. I had this happen before and had to pay for replacement because it was out of warranty ... now it's hapenning again (again out of warranty) :mad: . I may be willing to upgrade to a newer model but first I'd like to know... has the connector become stronger in newer models? I'm getting really sick of this. I would even consider moving out of the Treo, but as far as I know there is no other PalmOS phone.
