Has anyone connected to a free ISP in Europe? Is it difficult to do?
-
Im actually connected in France by FREE.fr, a free ISP...
No problem for me: I've had to configure my access like my desktop computer (dns, ip and else...) and that's all ;D
But maybe like me your cellular phone provider purpose an access to its own internet access ?
If it's the case, have a preference for this solution, cause they used to apply prices reductions on it ;)

Thank you very much for replying.
For the last 3 years, I've had a PalmV and I connected to the Internet over Compuserve using a GSM phone with an infra-red Port (it only worked 10% of the time) . Two weeks ago, I bought a Treo 270 and like is a lot easier.
In fact it is so much easier, I gave up my Compuserve account. On the other hand, when I travel in Europe, my local ISP will be very expensive to call. If I were to register on a free European ISP before coming over, do you think I would have any trouble connecting using my Treo? Here, the few free ISP's disguise your ID and Password so that what you are sending is not what you think you are sending and you cannot just call them on a PDA and use your ID and Password (at least, not without having to figure out what you are really sending them.)

So I have had my Treo 270 for about four days now. I love the thing, and don't know how I ever lived without it. I travel a lot to Europe though, and I am trying to make sure that I can check my email while I am traveling. I leave for Paris and Italy on Friday, and I am trying to figure out what I need to do to get it to work over there. I am with Cingular wireless and have an earthlink isp. is there a way to dial-up to Earthlink's local numbers wherever I am? How do I do that? I keep seeing posts about free Europe ISP's. What are these and do they work? If so, how would I set it up to work by Friday?
Sorry, I am a complete newbie and just want to make sure that this thing will check my email in Europe. (PS, with Cingular I had to put down a $500 deposit to make it a world phone within a 6 month period. Kind of ridiculous, but I needed it.)
