The way I see it, Palm will end up spending several hundred million if they lose. I just hope that doesn't slow down development of future Treo's.

I saw this, this AM too . . . I heard much speculation during the RIM lawsuit that Palm would be next and after that, WM . . . Worried? short term, no . . Long term??? With Every Mobile company in the World throwing out PDA phones with WM on them . . And now this? Yea, I might be . . . . . . .

If this goes through I think palm will be the end. Cuase in the RIM case they had what $1.2 billiion. But palm only has $123million. So I'm concerned also not happy with NTP.

So, wait...you're concerned about the Palm units that have Windows Mobile OSes? If so, what about the Palm units that have the Palm OS?

What I'm ultimately hoping for is that the judge takes into account how much less money Palm has (per jreagles) and adjusts the penalties accordingly. It'd be a shame to see the incredible functionality of the Treo decline because of this lawsuit. :frown:

If this lawsuit does proceed, I think it's a good possibility Palm gets bought. It's been speculated time and time again. What better time to have a parent company with deep pockets and an army of lawyers.

    1. any guesses on who might buy Palm out?
    2. any guesses on the future of Treo?

    1. I don't know.
    2. It survives and flourishes.

P.S. to Chris: Please post my comment (submitted yesterday, I believe) on the Audacity Pro page. I think it's a fair user comment. ;)

It wouldn't be the first time Microsoft bought up a competitor. But I honestly don't know what they would really gain in buying them . . .

As far as #2 goes, you might be looking at it now in the form of the 700W series . . Maybe possibly a 790S for Symbian????

I thought the legal dispute had something to do with the way e-mails are sent/received via the wireless network. So, maybe the OS isn't involved at all. ??

Honestly, the root of the problem is probably some ridiculous patent that no one ever knew existed. Palm puts together a fine piece of equipment, the Treo, for the consumers and now some dead guy's estate files a lawsuit to try and extort hundreds of millions from the little-company-that-could.
