    Default Movies on my Treo?

I'm looking at buying a Treo 650. I understand that it will play movies. How does this work? Do you have to download the movie? Are you buying the movie or just renting it? This sounds great!

You can download the movie, or just convert a dvd you own. Basically, it would follow the same logic as how you would get a movie onto your PC.

You need the movie in some kind of format. eg. DVD, download from the internet, etc.

You need a software that can play the videos on your Palm. eg. TCPMP.

You need a software that can convert the movie from its format to a format that can be viewed with the Palm video software. If the movie is already in a compressed video format (eg. avi, etc), you can use something like Pocket DivX encoder or VirtualdubMod or similar software that will convert it so that it can be viewed on the Palm. If it's from a DVD, you'll need something like Pocket DVD Studio for Palm (all-in-one software) that will convert the movie over. Or, you can use a variety of freeware and go through some steps to do the conversion yourself.

It can be done. It depends on whether you're willing to spend some money on software or try your hand at learning how to do it yourself with some freewares.

I just finished doing this on a Mac and have working pretty well -- and free. Since there are more than a handful of people interested in this topic, I'll probably post a tutorial with screenshots, etc.

Once you get the settings down, the process isn't that bad.

You definitely should! I recommend sitcoms or half-hour shows for those types of rides. Anything longer and it feels like you have to get off the bus as soon as you get into the movie!

I was surprised how good movies look on the Treo 650. Plus, they in at about 250MB, so you can fit 4 or so on a 1GB SD card. Good stuff!
