Sorry, I am very much a Newbie here and just posted about my Verizon Treo 650 not being able to sync via iCal any longer since installing Missing Sync, BUT:

I live in NYC but work a lot in Europe and can't use my Treo over there, OR Can I? Am such a dummy to this business of locked vs unlocked. Can someone explain? If I purchased this phone through verizon is there a way to put in a european sim card into it?

Sure. I'll explain it. Verizon uses CDMA technology. So does Sprint. Cingular and T-Mobile use GSM technology. GSM is the predominant technology in Europe. GSM phones use SIM cards. If you bought a Cingular phone, you could only use a Cingular SIM card. The phone is "locked". Let's say you have a Cingular phone and travel to Europe for work. Although you could use your phone, the charges would be astronomical. If you purchased an "unlocked" phone OR had Cingular unlock it for you (which is possible), you could purchase a low cost SIM card in Europe -- pop it in the phone and use the phone without incurring roaming charges -- since you're essentially using the network and minutes of the GSM carrier in Europe. Get back to NY and use your Cingular SIM card.

Thanks for both of your reply's! I should have looked into this before I purchased the phone through Verizon. Here's a question, not asking you to anything illegal, BUT is there a way to unlock this Verizon phone? I was told I might be able to.

Hey everyone. I am sad to say but, mt lil Treo has passed away! I can no longer receive calls, data or access the internet. I dont know why, but it died. Does any one know what to do with the phone now? I mean it was expensive and all, so could any one use the parts (screen, case, key board)?

You can probably get a few $ from eBay. I assume you've already tried hard resets?

I am thinking of upgrading to a 650 from my 600. Unfortunately T-mobile my provider, does not carry this.
I understand that I can get an unlocked GSM phone. My questions are: does anyone have t-mobile as their service provider and does the phone work well with tmobile?
Also, anyone have any suggestions for reputable discount sellers for the treo 650?
