Default Tero 650, 700 Verizon or Cingular

Hey i am a verizon customer thinking about getting a tero 650, but i am told the 700w is coming out for VZW early 2006. Should i wait for the 700 and stay with verizon or should i wait to see if it comes out to cingular and switch providers?

If this were as simple as new Treo 700 replacing Treo 650, then it might be an easy decision. However, the new Treo 700W will be running Windows Mobile 5.0 whereas the Palm Treo 650 runs the Palm OS. It's not as cut and dry as waiting for new hardware. The new Windows Mobile Treo will have an optional WiFi card which is a plus.

If you're familiar with the Palm OS, then you might be more comfortable with a Treo 650. Also, I'm going to guess that the new Treo will be more expensive than the 650 (which we offer now around $199 after rebates). Here's an interesting thread that discusses the new Treo 700W.

If you're happy with Verizon (and out of contract), then go for the deal that's best for you for the smarphone you want. If that's the 700, then you'll want to go with Verizon because they'll be the exclusive wireless carrier - at least for the first few months.

Does anyone know about a reliable source on when Verizon will actually have the phone available and for what recommended price?

If you're under contract, then you're best bet is to contact your provider and see what options you have. Verizon does a very good job of keeping you "in the family" with their family plans, upgrade plans, etc. If you're going to be out of contract, then you can jump to another provider and get the 650 at a significant savings. Usually, you're best deal is when you jump to another provider. It's always puzzled me. I wish they'd take a lesson from DirecTV's book - reward existing (GOOD) customers with discounts to keep their business. I love DirecTV -- not only for the discounts. I actually get the feeling they care about me - the customer. Imagine that?

Hope this helps.
