System Tools or Repair The Cost of Treo Ownership :(

So yesterday I purchased some more Software for the Treo. About $100 worth!!! Ouch!!! So that got me to wondering, just how much had I spent on my Treo since I picked it up in Late December? So I got my records out and starting adding it all up! Man, was I surprised! So here is my list of $$$$ spent since I have owned a Treo!
Volume Care 17.95 mRSS 19.95 Ringo Pro 29.95 Weather Manager 12.95 Chatter Email 39.95 zLauncher 19.95 IM+ 29.95 Voice Dial 19.99 PDAnet 34.95 Back up Buddy 19.95 Pocket Tunes Deluxe 34.95 Quicknews 14.95 Leather Case 19.95 Sandisk 2.0 Gig SD Card 99.00 Sandisk 512 meg SD Card 37.95
All of this for a Grand Total of . . . . . . $452.34. Lets not forget that the Treo itself cost $350 with a $100 rebate that I just got back the other day. So add $250 to that price, and then take into account the dataplan and voice minutes at a hefty price every month, and I realize, I have spent a fortune on my Treo! I mean, you can buy solid desktop computers for what I have spent for this mobile device! The truth is, I am through spending for applications! Two of the above apps, I bought and don’t even use any longer!!!! Also, installed on my Treo is Treo alarm that I was going to buy, but the developer was kind enough to let me have it for Free because of my review of it on my blog. That should have been another $18.50! One more thing: Screen protectors at around $20 and don’t forget the Bluetooth Headset at around $80! Owning a Treo is great!

But it sure ain’t cheap!

Default Cost of ownership

I'm with you, Stillrockin'. This thing always has me surfing, looking to see what new or undiscovered apps are out there. I had my mind made up on a few before I even got my Treo, based on discussions in this forum: volumeCare ($19.95), BackupMan ($14.95), PDANet ($34.95) and pTunes Deluxe ($34.95). So that was $114.80 I'd decided to spend before I even had it in hand.

Previous total $114.80
Since then...
Agendus Mail and Agendus Pro (bundle) $49.95
Butler 14.95
Today, which I've deleted 8.00
MobiTV 9.95/month
Passwords Plus 29.95
SplashMoney 24.95
Zlauncher 19.95
HBH-662 Bluetooth headset 65.00
Skin 34.95

For a grand total (so far) of $372.45

That's after I paid $400 on eBay for the Treo, a leather case, a 1gig card, a 512 card, 2 128 cards, an extra charger, car charger and a Cardo Scala bluetooth headset.

Amazing. This is what will keep people loyal to Palm and Treos, the amount they spend after the original purchase. It would be awful hard for me to abandon Palm OS and go back to PPC's with this investment in apps and accessories.

You reminded me about the Car charger I left off my list! (19.95) But you are exactly right! I really want the 700P and anything past it to be compatible with the POS 5.0, because of the major money you end up spending to equip it with 3rd party apps! I know that if I drop my Treo in the toilet, I almost HAVE to replace it now, or give up all the $$$$ I have sank into it . . The Cards can be used in other things, other than those, all apps, chargers, cases are worthless!

On the bright side, my Treo sure does do a lot!!!!!

On the down side, I still have 10 megs left on it . . . I will have to fill that with something . . . . . . . . . . .

Activation is carrier-specific. For example, if you have Sprint, there's a code you can enter that should activate your Treo. If it doesn't, you have to call them from another line and they will activate you over the air. Give your carrier a call and they should be able to set you straight.

System Tools or Repair

That's the problem...I was on the phone with Sprint for almost two hours todaya nd the guy couldn't tell me what screen to go to to type in the activation code...so he just gave me the steps to activate and left me to figure it out on my own...now my old phone is deactivated and the new one isn't working yet. Ughhhhhhhhh...and the Red Sox are losing to Toronto......

I've never owned a CMDA phone, so I can't help . . . . But if it were me, I would be at the local Sprint store first thing this morning to get them to activate it while I watch what screen they used for activation . . .
