treo 700p no carrier network last two weekends - reset needed.
Over the last couple weeks when we go to our church I notice when I get home my 700p has "no network" connection on phone network even though phone is on. It is not trying to connect to network. First time I waited for awhile and it never came on, had to open battery case and do a system reset and once it booted and phone turned back on all was fine. I checked with my kids and they all had ok reception on Verizon (company we all use). It was just my 700p only, my son in laws 650 was fine.
Well it has done it again today apparently during church service. But earlier this month and last no problems. This is happening at the building (a large church with lots of high tech stuff, computers, wi fi in building ect -- so I am wondering if that interacts?).
This is the only place this has happened and I have had this phone for 3 months. it does not do this any other place, all rest of phone and the palm os ok. Could something in the wifi at our church interfere with this phone and its connection so that it gets confused? Although this has only done this sunday and last. Fine the month before. My son-in laws 650 does not seem to be affected by this.
Is there away to get the phone to recheck the verizon wireless network after this occurs short of the soft-reset under the battery cover? I looked in phone preferenes and settings and such and did not seem to find a way for it to recheck network service when out of building and elsewhere or back at home where we have fine reception 3-4 bars.
So I am just curious what this is and hope it does not get worse. Other than this I have had no major problems with phone since I got it in early October.
Thanks

Hi Russ:
Could it be a heathen phone?
Seriously, anytime my phone is out of a service area (Sprint) it does seem to be automatically looking for a signal. I don't think this is in a user's control.
I don't think all the surrounding tech stuff should be affecting it, but you never know.
By the way, have you tried turning off the radio by pressing and holding the red phone icon until the radio (phone) turns off? Then press and hold again to turn back on and the unit should search for the signal. This is cleaner than opening the battery compartment and resetting.
You might want to give your provider a call and pose the question.
Good luck,

Just a followup. I talked to my son-in-law this past week about his 650 and he never had the problems at the church building. But he suggested I might want to do the monthly update of the Treo with Verizon (our carrier) with the #228. He does it regularly with his 650. So I did that late last week. Well I had no problems on Sunday. I also looked periodically and noted the signal is pretty weak in the building one bar to no bar just tower. But never got the no network signal in the phone this time. So perhaps this helped some bug that Verizon knew about?

No did not think of trying that, too simple I wanted the more complex solution. Thanks for reminding me of the simple solution <grin>
